Time & Location
About The Event
- What is International Thalassemia Day?
The International Thalassaemia Day, celebrated annually on the 8th of May, is a commemoration day in honour of all patients with Thalassaemia and their parents who have never lost hope for life, despite the burden of their disease, and to all scientists who, with tireless dedication and enduring efforts, are striving to ensure an improved quality of life to people with Thalassaemia across the world.
- What is Thalassemia?
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder. People with Thalassemia disease are not able to make enough haemoglobin on their own.Thalassemia patients need to undergo blood transfusion once in every 15 to 21 days without which the patients are at an increased risk of premature death preceded by poor quality of life.
- What’s Special About this year’s Awareness drive?
Did you know that when both husband and wife / intended couples are Thalassemia Minor, there is a 25% chance that their child will have Thalassemia Major and reduced life expectancy?
A person having Thalassemia Major rarely lives beyond 30 years – most live less than half of that.
This awareness drive, we focus on critical strategies on
By raising awareness on Simple Medical Tests that an 'intended couple' can undergo before they decide on the marriage & start a Happy Family.
A huge 40-50 million people are at risk but oblivious to the possibility of facing a distressing situation, meaning giving birth to a Thalassemia Major kid, when they marry and start a family.
