YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Before plunging into the world of volunteering, you must be asking yourself questions such as why you should volunteer, how does it impact the society and how does it benefit you.
To help you make a decision, we have come up with a list of benefits which we have experienced while travelling in the journey of volunteering.
FIND SOME AMAZING SET OF PEOPLE
While volunteering, you will meet all kinds of people, from all walks of life and from different professions; doctors, engineers, scientists, students, event managers, kids, youngsters, senior citizens, you name it! This is a place where people come together for a cause..they don’t care for your cast, creed, color, pay package etc. The bonding happens based on the shared passion for a better world around us.
EXPERIENCE LIFE, LIKE NEVER BEFORE
We think working 9am-5 pm for five days will earn us all the luxuries we want in life. The weekends are the time to enjoy your time with family. Agreed. But take a few hours of this weekend time to help some needy person. From our experience, we can say that you earn more than you possibly can give. A small child’s smile, love and affection, a blessing from the elderly person, a new friendship, a new travel opportunity, probably a new work opportunity which allows you to pursue your passion and so on.
LEARN, LEARN AND SOME MORE
Volunteering, it is a huge learning experience..be it learning a new language, learning to interact with a blind person, learning sign language or Braille, learning to scribe or interact with a child with autism. Apart from all this, it teaches you so much about your own self. You start to realize your strengths and weaknesses and the best thing is that you also get the opportunities to work on them too. We would say this is a free school for personality development.
BE CLOSE TO REALITY
We crib so much about our day to day lives..the car our neighbor has is so much better, ex-classmate got a richer spouse, that friend’s got a better body, I don’t have enough money..Well, when you start volunteering, you start to put things in perspective realizing what is important in life and what is not. You realize there are so many people out there who struggle to get through every single day and we on the other hand are so much privileged than those people. You learn to value people, accept and face the difficulties in life..in a way it is a spiritual development.
BECOME MORE HUMANE
Being a volunteer teaches you to be sensitive towards all kinds of people. The experiences inspire you to create a more inclusive society for all different kinds of people, not to forget differently-abled people. It makes us value another life, no matter in what form. It teaches us the difference between sympathy and empathy.
There is no specific guideline on when you need to start volunteering. You can choose to volunteer at any point in time, at any age. However, if you are the kind of a person who looks for constant growth and improvement, sooner the better. Volunteering is a way to help others. However, we have learned that you get so much more in return than you give. So volunteer today..help others, help yourself.
